A City Slicker’s Rustic Quonset Hut in Detroit

A City Slicker's Rustic Quonset Hut in Detroit

My partner and I don’t want to live in the suburbs, but we do want all the benefits of being near downtown Detroit. We both work and play in the city, so it makes sense that we live there, too. At first, we looked at trendy apartments in renovated buildings, but everything was too noisy, had no parking, and just didn’t feel like home.

About the House

In the heart of the city, there sits a modern home with a rustic feel. This home, made from a converted Quonset hut, is the perfect retreat for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The hut was originally built as a storage shed on a farm but has been transformed into a cozy home that is perfect for entertaining.

It has a spacious living room with an open floor plan, where guests can lounge by the fire or chat at the granite-topped kitchen island. A large window provides plenty of natural light during the day, which flows into the rest of the house through its glass walls. The master bedroom features vaulted ceilings and ample closet space, while the guest bedroom includes French doors leading out onto a balcony overlooking the treetops. The basement level includes two guest rooms with their own bathrooms, along with a private office suite.

Double-Decker Couch

If you’re looking for a cozy place to curl up with a good book or take a nap, this is the spot. The double-decker couch offers plenty of room to stretch out, and the plush pillows make it extra inviting. When it’s time to get up and explore the city, you’ll be glad you have a comfortable place to come back to at the end of the day. Sometimes you need some quiet space to work on your computer or read that novel you’ve been dying to get into.

Get ready for those late night brainstorming sessions by finding a corner away from the rest of the family and spending some quality time working on your project. The adjustable light lets you set the mood and change your focus depending on what task needs to be accomplished.

Fire Pit

On a cool night, there’s nothing better than gathering around a fire pit with friends. The crackling of the flames and the smell of wood smoke are sure to create lasting memories. If you’re lucky enough to have a fire pit in your backyard, be sure to take advantage of it! Here are a few tips for making the most of your fire pit Use seasoned hardwood (oak or ash) to keep the fire going longer.

Make sure that you clean out ashes and hot coals before leaving the area unattended – they can cause significant damage if they come into contact with combustible materials such as grass or leaves.

When building a bonfire, make sure that your fuel is well away from any buildings or trees – never use gasoline, kerosene, or other flammable liquids.

Family Room with Indoor/Outdoor Seating

I’m an event planner by trade, and I recently moved to Detroit. When I saw this Quonset hut for sale, I knew it was the perfect place for me. It’s close to the city, but still feels like a getaway. The family room is my favorite space. It has indoor and outdoor seating, so I can entertain guests no matter the weather. Plus, the rustic aesthetic is perfect for my farmhouse-chic style. If you’re looking for a charming home on the outskirts of town, give this one a look!
